How to measure current of a MCU (eg Attiny)?

Hi there,

seems like a simple problem, but since one cannot connect to the vcc of an MCU, you also cannot hook an amperemeter in series with powersupply.

Besides; What is the reasoning for having the mcu automatically powered? I find it kind of misleading.

I don't think CPU power consumption is something that is simulated.
Do you imagine the extraodinary amount of parameter to take in account for each kind of chip ?
